History

The Ukrainian Microwave Week is organized to unite several international conferences and symposia on Microwaves, Antennas, and Radar that are traditionally held in Ukraine. As a result, in 2020, four IEEE conferences — MSMW, ICATT, MRRS, and UWBUSIS — were combined into a single joint event, the IEEE Ukrainian Microwave Week. In 2022, another IEEE conference, DIPED, joined the Week. Starting from 2026, the IEEE conference MMET will also become part of the Ukrainian Microwave Week.  The Week is held every even year starting from 2020.
History before 2020:
IEEE International Kharkiv Symposium on Physics and Engineering of Microwaves, Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves (MSMW)
The MSMW Symposium has an old history, started in 1974 from a series of conferences on millimeter and sub-millimeter waves occasionally held in the USSR. Since 1992, this meeting was held in Kharkiv by the Institute of Radio-Physics and Electronics of NASU. It has become a triennial forum that joins leading scientists and engineers from Ukraine and European countries.
IEEE International Conference on Antenna Theory and Techniques (ICATT)
This conference has been held since 1995. The conference’s topics include a wide range of antenna and wave propagation issues. Since 2003 ICATT was held under IEEE sponsorship.
IEEE International Symposium on Microwaves, Radar and Remote Sensing (MRRS)
It was established to promote scientific collaboration and the exchange of advanced research in the fields of microwave engineering, radar technologies, and remote sensing. The symposium has been traditionally organized in Ukraine with technical co-sponsorship from the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques, Antennas and Propagation, and Geoscience and Remote Sensing Societies. The Symposium continues the series of very successful MRRS Symposia which are conducted regularly since 2005.
IEEE International Conference on Ultra-wideband and Ultra-short Impulse Signals (UWBUSIS)
The conference started in 2002 as a small one-day event, but since 2004 it has got IEEE technical support. The UWBUSIS provided the international forum for discussing recent advances in ultrawideband and ultrashort impulse signals problems and related issues.
IEEE International Seminar/Workshop on Direct and Inverse Problems of Electromagnetic and Acoustic Wave Theory (DIPED)
It has been held since 1995 and IEEE co-sponsored since 1998. It is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation, Electron Devices, and Microwave Theory and Techniques Societies. DIPED is co-organized by the IEEE Region 8 (Republic of Georgia) MTT/ED/AP Joint Chapter and the IEEE Ukraine Section (West) MTT/ED/AP/EP/SSC Joint Chapter. Traditionally was held alternately in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Lviv (Ukraine), DIPED had, since 2022, included in the IEEE Ukrainian Microwave Week in even years, while in odd years it was held as a separate IEEE conference in Georgia. Since 2026, DIPED has been fully part of IEEE Ukrainian Microwave Week without a separate conference in odd years.
IEEE International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory (MMET)
It has been established in 1990, is a biennial event that has been held in major Ukrainian cities including Kharkiv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odesa. From its inception, MMET emphasized international participation, an English-only program, and strong scientific standards. Since 1996, it has been the flagship conference of the IEEE Ukraine Section (East) Joint Chapter of several IEEE Societies (AP, MTT, ED, AES, NPS, and GRS) and has received long-term support from U.S. and European scientific organizations. Recognized for bridging Ukrainian and global research communities, MMET focuses on computational electromagnetics and related fields. The conference also upholds unique traditions, such as reduced fees for young and senior participants and distinctive awards, including the V. Sologub and N. Khyzhnyak awards.
